This karstic complex, of approximately 200 hectares  of surface, stands out for having a great value  environmental and, specifically, geological; in addition to having faunal and archaeological interest.

The Cuevas de León complex is developed in limestone  Ambrian (between 500 and 540 million years old)  antiquity) belonging to the Ossa Morena Zone of the Hesperian Massif.

In the cavities there are different types of speleothems  such as stalactites, stalagmites, eccentrics,  coladas and gours, among others, highlighting some very unique ones such as the "stalactites on wings of  butterfly".

The largest and most well-known cavity is the Cueva del Agua, which was already cited by J. Ramón Mélida in the Monumental Catalog of Spain (1925), referring to the archaeological remains found there.

The Cueva del Agua is the largest and best known  from  all. Declared LIC (Place of Community Interest)  due to the colony of bats that  houses. This cave has some characteristics that  differ from the rest, as it is an interior lake of more than  200 square meters of surface and some engravings  cave.

The Masero Cave, its importance lies in the profusion of  all kinds of speleothems that we find in it:  stalactites (eccentric, helical, curved,  shaped  of spearhead and butterfly wings,  etc.), aragonite crystals, veils, columns  siphons etc. It is a cave that is in formation,  an authentic Karst nursery.

The castle of El Cuerno stands proud after the passing of the years in the municipality of Fuentes de León in Badajoz. Accessing it is difficult, since it is located in the mountains, about four kilometers from the town. It dates between the 9th and 14th centuries, and its origin is Arabic, although it was subsequently the subject of several reforms under the military orders of the Temple and Santiago.
